Bug Description

Tom reports he could not shutdown from any screen on his VM.
I was not able to shutdown from the home screen on my stick on a classmate (did not try others).

I have had this problem in Blueberry too. I can almost never shut down.

I think that this has to do with Ubuntu moving away from hal in Lucid

To shutdown enter "sudo shutdown -h now" in terminal.
DO NOT TRY LOGOUT OR SHUTDOWN from drop-down boxes as it freezes
terminal and will probably cause a corrupted USB. Once the command is
entered there is no graceful way to stop the USB and save your settings.
