Bug Description

I use a serial connection to admin a headless Ubuntu machine. I configured Grub and the kernel to work over the serial port, but memtest86 needs to be recompiled to support this (see SERIAL_CONSOLE_DEFAULT in config.h).

Could the memtest86+ package include serial support? The memtest README states that it slows things down, so could it be configurable? Could the memtest86 package provide a serial and non-serial image for grub? Or could there be a separate package for this?

With the latest upstream version, 2.00, you should be able to give it as linux boot parameter. It is not packaged yet though :-(

Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make Ubuntu better. However, I am closing it because the bug has been fixed in the latest development version of Ubuntu - the Intrepid Ibex.

This is a signficant bug in Ubuntu. If you need a fix for the bug in previous versions of Ubuntu, please do steps 1 and 2 of the SRU Procedure [1] to bring the need to a developer's attention.
