Bug Description
I have been unable to boot the Lucid liveCD on one of my computers since 20 December.
The desktop computer gets as far as:
init: ureadahead-other main process (1050) terminated with status 4
udevd (1046) SYSFS{}= will be removed in a future udev version, please use ....
}= to match the event device, or ATTRS{}= to match a parent device, in /lib ....
/rules.
The .... indicates where some of the message is missing because it extends beyond the edge of the screen.
There is some activity from the CD drive after this, but then everything locks up completely with no further error message. I have to power down and up again before I can reboot.
I've tried some options such as "safe graphics mode", vga=791, acpi=off and the other options from F6 in the boot menu, but none make any difference. Removing "quiet splash" from the kernel line didn't generate any extra messages after the final one, either.
I tried the same CDs on a Toshiba Satellite A-10, and the CD boots to the login screen. (I find then that I can't login, but that's a separate issue.)
I've attached the output of lshw for both machines: hw-laptop.txt for the laptop and hw-desktop.txt for the desktop.
This bug is closely related to Bug 499399. Please feel free to merge it with that one if necessary.
