Bug Description

Binary package hint: gnome-session

When adding a Startup Application, the user currently must either enter the command manually, or browse for the desired command. Neither of the options are understandable for the average user. Startup Applications should integrate with the Main Menu editor, and allow the user to browse the applications with entires in the Main Menu editor.

Thank you for bringing this bug to our attention. However, a paper cut should be a small usability issue, in the default Ubuntu 9.10 install, that affects many people and is quick and easy to fix. There is no widget available in a public library anywhere for gnome-session to use to pick applications, and the functionality of the menu editor is not exportable in such a way that gnome-session could use. This would mean that the application chooser would have to be implemented from scratch in gnome-session, or in a public library where it can be used by other applications too. This would be a significantly non-trivial amount of work, so this bug can't be addressed as part of this project.
