Bug Description

Hi,
I wanted to play a VCD on Ubuntu Dapper with the help of Xine. I launched Xine in the terminal. And as I started to play the VCD, Xine disappeared leaving this error message on the terminal.

ashish@ash:~$ xine
This is xine (X11 gui) - a free video player v0.99.4.
(c) 2000-2004 The xine Team.
xine: symbol lookup error: /usr/lib/xine/plugins/1.1.1/xineplug_inp_vcd.so: undefined symbol: vcdinfo_get_seg_resolution
ashish@ash:~$

These are all the package related to Xine installed on my laptop:

ashish@ash:~$ dpkg -l | grep xine
ii libxine-extracodecs 1.1.1+ubuntu1-2 the xine video/media player library, binary
ii libxine-main1 1.1.1+ubuntu2-7.1 the xine video/media player library, binary
ii libxine1c2 1.1.1+ubuntu1-2 the xine video/media player library, transit
ii libxinerama1 1.0.1-0ubuntu2 X11 Xinerama extension library
rc totem-xine 1.4.1-0ubuntu4 A simple media player for the Gnome desktop
ii xine-ui 0.99.4-0ubuntu6 the xine video player, user interface
ashish@ash:~$

Note: the original reporter indicated the bug was in package 'xine'; however, that package was not published in Ubuntu.

I can confirm this bug. I faced it with gxine. It doesn't appear with all VCDs.

Using dapper final with updated libxine-main1

The bug is with xine library and not with UI.

Changed in xine-ui:
status: Unconfirmed → Confirmed
Changed in xine-ui:

A workaround (change in xine-lib source) is suggested here

Setting from package ubuntu (undefined) to xine-lib
Can you confirm this bug still happens in dapper, edgy/feisty?
Thanks

According to this page, http://www.itdp.de/Xine-devel/2005-12/msg00081.html, a fixed was released in 2005... Bug is due to an outdated version of libvcd... setting as fixed. Sourceforge upstream doesn't seem to be looking at their list of bugs.

Changed in xine-lib:
assignee: shooters → nobody
status: Needs Info → Fix Released

But has that patch been applied? Can someone confirm that the latest xine-lib works correctly now? I had the problem with a VCD that had been created using Nero Burning ROM. There was a brief segment of video at the beginning of the disk that said the disk had been created with Nero.... I no longer have that disk. Maybe someone has or could create such a disk for testing.

By the way, that segment was maybe only one frame long. I did not see it until after I applied the patch. I think I paused and rewound to the beginning of the video.
