Bug Description

Binary package hint: brasero

When I try and burn any type of file (Iso, MPEG, AVI) in Brasero, i get an error that says

Please replace the disc with a supported CD or DVD
It is not possible to write with the current set of plugins

I'm using DVD+R, which should be supported (i think), and i can't seem to find a plugin stating that it pertains to that error, nor can i find one online to fix it. I am completely new to Ubuntu and Linux in General, so... 'nuff said

Thanks for your report, could you get a brasero log? please run brasero as: brasero --brasero-burn-debug --brasero-media-debug &> brasero-debug.txt ; perform the operation to reproduce the bug and attach that resulting log file to the report, thanks.

This bug affects me either.

My Laptop: Acer Ferrari 5005 WLHI with Toshiba TS L802A DVD ROM

Distributor ID: Ubuntu
Description: Ubuntu 9.10
Release: 9.10
Codename: karmic
Architecture: i386

I can burn CD-ROM like the Ubuntu alternate CD image with brasero, but can't burn any DVD. I tried differrent DVD manufacturs as well as DVD-R and DVD+R. I also tried to burn a CD-ROM image to a DVD without success.

I have attached a screenshot with the typical message and it will follow my lshal output, my lshw outpout along with
the brasero-debug.txt.

Thanks

 Oliver

Do you have package dvdauthor installed? brasero uses tools form that package for burnings DVDs.

No, dvdauthor is not installed, even that I doubt that brasero needs dvdauthor. The more I read the manuals the more I think
brasero is a dependency for dvdauthor and not vice versa. Also I do want to burn and ISO image with raw data and not a movie.

I have installed dvd+rw-tools which is used by brasero and others.

I will test it with ubuntu-restriced-extras.

Dani, your problem is not related to this old Brasero bug.
You experience problems between drive and medium after
Brasero, libburn, and the drive all accepted the medium
as suitable for writing. The drive performed two WRITE
commands before it complained about the outcome of the
third one.

Further, this bug was reported for an older version of
Brasero, which used wodim and dvd+rw-tools as burn
backends. Your Brasero uses libburn. But this difference
is not supposed to make a difference in the relation
of your drive and your medium. (What kind of DVD is it,
btw ?)

This narrows the set to: DVD-R, DVD-RW, DVD+R, DVD+RW.
(DVD-RAM and DVD+R DL have significantly different sizes.)

You should try a different brand of media. Best a different
type. E.g. try DVD+R if the failing ones are DVD-R.
If all reachable kinds of DVD fail, then consider to exchange
the drive.
