Bug Description

Binary package hint: linux-image

Syntek, USB Camera Device, 1.3 MPixel Web Cam 174f:1404 works perfectly in Skype 2.1.0.47. However in Cheese, when using driver uvcvideo in Karmic 9.10, a regular pattern of incorrectly rotated squares of pixels is seen. See:
  http://img44.imageshack.us/img44/581/320x240g.jpg
  http://img44.imageshack.us/img44/2205/640x480dt.jpg
  http://img694.imageshack.us/img694/6642/1280x1024z.jpg

More information on this device can be found here:
  http://www.qbik.ch/usb/devices/showdev.php?id=4607

I have noticed that Skype and Cheese cannot access the device at the same time. This might be unrelated but perhaps worth noticing. Also the USB ID need to be added to usb.ids:
 174f Syntek
     1403 Integrated Webcam
+ 1404 USB Camera device, 1.3 MPixel Web Cam
5212 USB 2.0 UVC PC Camera
     5a11 PC Camera
     5a31 Sonix USB 2.0 Camera

Please fix this bug and release it via updates.

Andy, does this solve the kernel series unknown status?

Hi Pander,

This bug was reported a while ago and there hasn't been any activity in it recently. We were wondering if this is still an issue? Can you try with the latest development release of Ubuntu? ISO CD images are available from http://cdimage.ubuntu.com/releases/ .

If it remains an issue, could you run the following command from a Terminal (Applications->Accessories->Terminal). It will automatically gather and attach updated debug information to this report.

apport-collect -p linux 500529

Also, if you could test the latest upstream kernel available that would be great. It will allow additional upstream developers to examine the issue. Refer to https://wiki.ubuntu.com/KernelMainlineBuilds . Once you've tested the upstream kernel, please remove the 'needs-upstream-testing' tag. This can be done by clicking on the yellow pencil icon next to the tag located at the bottom of the bug description and deleting the 'needs-upstream-testing' text. Please let us know your results.

Thanks in advance.

It is still not working for:
Linux katana 2.6.31-20-generic #58-Ubuntu SMP Fri Mar 12 04:38:19 UTC 2010 x86_64 GNU/Linux

The apport-collect requires me to set "Change Anything" privileges. That is too much and I can't allow that. Can you reconfigure it for "Read Non-Private Data"?

Pander,
The 'change anything' is only for data on Launchpad and has nothing to do with your machine.
