Bug Description

Binary package hint: xserver-xorg-video-intel

I can't enabled KWin desktop effects through the Configure Window Behavior dialog. I get an error "Desktop Effects could not be enabled using the current configuration options", while running compiz (using --replace) works well with all compositing effects.

This is a brand new KUbuntu 10.04 beta installed with all updates. Xorg was using the default configuration (no configuration file). I tried creating a configuration file using Xorg --configure and that didn't change anything, even when I added an "Extensions" section with Option Composite Enable.

The new xorg.conf file is set to use the "intel" driver, and I have an Intel graphics adapter:
$ lspci -v

        Capabilities: [d0] Power Management version 2
        Kernel driver in use: i915
        Kernel modules: i915

Xorg configuration attached.

Running KWin from the command line, I get this when I try to enable composite:

Hi there!

Thanks for reporting this bug! Your bug seems to be a problem with the KDE program itself, and not with our KDE packages. While we appreciate your issue, it would be better if it was tracked at https://bugs.kde.org, so that the KDE developers can deal with this speedily and have direct communication with you as the reporter for more effective debugging.

Thanks!
