Bug Description

Ubuntu 9.04 was rock solid for me.

I recently did a clean install on my desktop of 9.10. All is good except I get total lockups about once an evening. The mouse is still functional but not the keyboard (I have enabled <CRTL><ALT><BACKSPACE> but it or an attempt to go to a command shell does not work).

After a bit of research I figure that the Intel Corporation 82845G/GL[Brookdale-G]/GE Chipset Integrated Graphics Device (rev 01) might be causing the problem??

A quick test of Fedora 12 from the live CD also caused a lockup.

I am using 2.6.31-16-generic.

It appears that something in 9.10 must have changed to cause this problem as the system was totally rock solid before the new install.

Have tried:
Option "NoAccel" "true"
Option "AccelMethod" "EXA"

but neither improve the situaiton

Reassigning to Ubuntu, as this doesn't look like a request to backport a package.
