Bug Description

Binary package hint: gdm

$ lsb_release -rd
Description: Ubuntu 9.10
Release: 9.10

$ apt-cache policy gdm
gdm:
  Installed: 2.28.1-0ubuntu2.1
  Candidate: 2.28.1-0ubuntu2.1
  Version table:
 *** 2.28.1-0ubuntu2.1 0
        500 http://gulf karmic-updates/main Packages
        100 /var/lib/dpkg/status
     2.28.1-0ubuntu1 0
        500 http://gulf karmic/main Packages

If I configure autologin in gdm, it works for the initial login in a gdm session. Upon choosing logout from the Session menu, it does not auto login again.
If the gdm service is restarted, autologin will work again as expected for the initial session, but logout fails again.

The expected behaviour is that upon logging out, the gdm will honour the autologin and timedlogin options configured in /etc/gdm/custom.conf

# cat /etc/gdm/custom.conf

[daemon]
AutomaticLoginEnable=true
AutomaticLogin=ubuntu
TimedLoginEnable=true
TimedLogin=ubuntu
TimedLoginDelay=1

Hi,
This is not a duplicate of the other bug. The behaviour described in the other occurs upon shutdown and reboot, and is clearly a "bug".

My report is related to logout/auto-relogin behaviour which I think may be "by design" (but a design feature which I think is not providing expected behaviour).

Could you please re-read my report, and remove the duplicate status

Regards,
Bernie

I actually did not mean to mark this as a duplicate. I also experience the behavior described in the bug. Please remove the duplicate status.

 thank you for your bug report, that's not a bug though and has been discussed in other bug reports before

Changed in gdm (Ubuntu):

Hi,
I spent some time searching launchpad before posting this - could you provide some links to these discussions please?

not really, I've over a thousand bug email to go through after holidays and I can't spent 15 minutes on each looking for references over all the open and closed bugs or I will spend the month doing that only, not sure it has been discussed much but that would rather be a mailing list topic since nobody will discuss that in bugs out of triagers...
