Bug Description

Binary package hint: wine

I'm getting odd behavior running Wine programs in Lucid. Poptray (poptray.org) is supposed to sit in the panel and check email from multiple accounts.

Sometimes the applet isn't there, but still notifies by audio. Earlier today, the desktop shook while it checked mail. Weather Eye from the Weather Network also has a panel applet that sometimes doesn't appear.

This would seem like it might be a regression in wine; which wine version did you try?
Could you please confirm whether this is still an issue with a recent version of wine (preferably 1.2) from https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-wine/+archive/ppa ?
Thanks

It's not an issue in Maverick, where I'm running 1.2.

It seemed to be OK in Lucid for quite a while, but it appeared on the desktop recently instead of it's normal panel location.

No big deal, but it is interesting. Of course, one has to expect strange behavior from anything to do with Windows...

Thank you for posting this bug.

Does this occur in newest WINE?

Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make Ubuntu better. My apologies as I should not have marked this Invalid. The issue that you reported is one that should be reproducible with the live environment of the Desktop CD of the development release - Maverick Meerkat. It would help us greatly if you could test with it so we can work on getting it fixed in the next release of Ubuntu. You can find out more about the development release at http://www.ubuntu.com/testing/ . Thanks again and we appreciate your help.

It hasn't happened for several weeks, and when it does, closing and re-opening the application takes care of the problem.

Usually it's PopTray appearing on the desktop rather than in the right panel.

Christopher, thank you for posting this bug and helping to make Ubuntu better. What Windows program(s), with version specifically does this issue occur in? Please post a download link of the program executables if available. Please check this issue in the newest development WINE (1.3.10) via: http://www.winehq.org/download/deb If this issue occurs in it feel free to link an upstream bug to this one found at: http://bugs.winehq.org/ or create a new one, and toggle the status of this bug to New.
