Bug Description

Binary package hint: audacity

audacity 1.3.9-6 (karmic)

If I export an audio file, the file dialog repeats the name used when importing the file. However, if a file with multiple .-seperated parts is used, the suffix got stripped. For example:

import a file named "my.audio.file.wav". now project is named "my.audio.file". Use export, and the file dialog suggests "my.audio.file". It should save as "my.audio.file.wav", but when clicking save, it will save "my.audio.file".

Didn't you get a warning, when the filename does not end with .wav (for wave files)? Screen shot of the warning dialog attached.

Yes, I did. But I expect to not getting a warning, as the file I loaded
was ended with .wav, but the name Audacity suggest for exporting lacks it.

I think the .wav is stripped while loading, so the project is named
my.file.without.suffix, but when exporting, Audacity thinks I want the
suffix .suffix, which of course is senseless. When editing a lot of
audio files, this sucks because you have to retype the suffix by hand
every time.

My suggestion: when Audacity creates a project by importing one file, it
should name the project after the file, and not strip the suffix.

thanks very much

Paul
