Bug Description

Binary package hint: software-center

When browsing the graphics section in software center, gpsdrive is listed:

"Map-based navigation system that displays the current position provided by a GPS receiver on a zoomable map. Maps can be downloaded from different map providers or rendered on-the-fly using the OpenStreetMap dataset.
Route planning, optionally with spoken directions, is supported through waypoints."

this is hardly a "graphics" app, and should be moved to "other" or "science".

For example, on apple's website, routebuddy is categorized as a "math and science" app:

This is a bug in gpsdrive not software-center

GpsDrive is correctly listed in "Science & Engineering" > "Geography".

So all that's needed to fix this bug is to remove the "Graphics" category from the .desktop file.

It would be best to have the debian maintainer make this change. Would you please file an upstream (debian) bug for this.

Setting to incomplete until upstream task is set

This is no longer an issue in the upstream SVN. All that needs to happens is for the package to be updated

Bilal , could you also mention MPT's comment #2 in the debian bug?
Also , this might already be fixed in SVN as per Andrew's comment. Might just need to a update the package.

Thanks for the tip Bilal, in this case I shall create a debdiff to update the package.

Sorry guys, I spent a while on this, but I am in a bit over my head. The whole build system for gpsdrive has changed (uses cmake now) and so the packaging needs to be done from scratch.

I have managed to do all the patching work, I went through each one and found out whether it is still needed, attached is a ZIP containing the *updated* patches that are still needed for gpsdrive.

This bug needs someone to package gpsdrive from scratch. As I said all the patches are there, it just needs someone who has experience with cmake. It will solve lots of bugs and so would be a worthwhile task.

Any takers?

Hi there,

fyi I have made unoffical .debs of a modern GpsDrive and put them up at:
   http://download.osgeo.org/livedvd/data/gpsdrive/

the latest version of GpsDrive you should be working on trying to get packaged is 2.11. Don't even bother with the older versions, so much has been fixed since then.

the latest debian/ build rules are here, and not in that bad shape:
   http://gpsdrive.svn.sourceforge.net/viewvc/gpsdrive/trunk/debian/

any and all help to take the final steps across the finish line is hereby requested.

thanks gratefully,
Hamish
