Bug Description
Under Ubuntu my laptop (Fujitsu-Siemens AMILO M7400) is at all times much more hot than under WinXP. Most confusing is that the heat comes from where the RAM modules are situated, this part of laptop was never hot under WinXP.
I suppose this affects the battery-time, since some extra energy is coming from the laptop.

I have no experience with WinXP, but my Toshiba Tecra8100 is also much hotter under Ubuntu than its previous Win98 OS. Although this apparently does not interfere with performance, it's uncomfortable for the user; I have therefore installed the toshset utilities and keep the the fan on permanently as a workaround.
