Bug Description

Binary package hint: octave3.2

1) Ubuntu 9.10
2) octave3.2_3.2.2-2build1_i386.deb
3) I tried to install octave3.2 and revealed depend problem.
4) In ubuntu is installed libreadline6 by default, but octave demands on libreadline5

I've tried to do these:
dpkg -x octave.deb ./octave
dpkg -e octave.deb ./octave/DEBIAN
change the control file
dpkg -b ./octave octave2.deb
Then I got bug #418389
But octave was installed

I have found that many other packages for Octave depend on: libreadline5 and octave3.0

PS: Why do you include in name of a package version of it? It'll bring many problems in the future

libreadline5 and libreadline6 should be co-installable so this should prove no problem. What is the exact error you get if you try to install octave3.2 in ubuntu 9.10?

octave3.2 in lucid does already use libreadline6; so the issue is at least fixed there.
