Bug Description

Binary package hint: update-manager

When I click the orange Icon right above that says my system needs an update. The update window comes on(the one where you can see what is going to be updated). After about 3 seconds X crashes. The first two times this crash happens the screen gets weird. Only a few collors and a lot of dots appear.

The third time it simply locks up my system.

I have been using Ubuntu Dapper Drake from flight 5. Had a lot of updates but the updates on 15 jun are not working anymore. Or at least I cant acces them via the ubuntu update function.

The CPU frequence programme indicate that as soon as I click on the update icon it goes to maximum 1.8 Mhz.

My computer is a laptop Sony Vaio VGN-fs... Grap: Nvidia (with driver install) I work with two screens, laptop and LCD screen.

Thanx (and thank you for the Free Software and Ubuntu)

PS. I will know use apt-get command line to solve this. Well I hope it will be solved

The same on my computer (AMD desktop 1800 MHz, Dapper Drake (6.06)). Till today everything went fine. This morning I wanted to do the newest updates but as soon as the updata manager starts my screen goes crazy (black with some nice colors) and then I get back to the login screen. I did this twice, it reproduces very nicely. Till now my computer didn't stop responding...perhaps after the third time.

After that I used the shell and typed:

apt-get update
apt-get -s updgrade (-s because I was a little scared)

The output of the last command was:

Perhaps there is something wrong with one of those packages?

PS: Indeed thank you all for Ubuntu and other great software. Getting rid of Windows and installing Ubuntu was the best thing I ever did on my computer... :-)

Today I had to do 69 updates instead of those 7 listed above. This time the update manager didn't crash and everything worked fine....strange

Sorry, the last comment was not quite right.

It implies that I got 69 new updates not being one of those listed above but I didn't check this. I strongly believe that those 7 updates still were listed in the 69 updates I did this morning.

For me it was the same, no crash problem with the new update. Yesterday I had to use apt-get to update...

I wonder 69 updates aren't that alot...
