Maybe a kernel bug. Or maybe a hardware/software problem in your PDA device.
Jpilot has nothing to do with kernel errors. This bug should be reassigned to the kernel.

You should try to reinstall "Hardy Heron 8.04 on x86 32 bit" on another computer using the original CD (so with the original kernel) and see if you also have the pronblem.
Maybe you can just reinstall the original 8.04 kernel.

Another option is to upgrade to a more recent Ubuntu version and a newer kernel.

Ludovic,

This device and configuration has been working perfectly for months -
then broke with the
linux kernel upgrade of a week or so ago. the kernel after that was a
little better, but still broken.

Im going to persist with this bug - as this is supposed to be a 'Long
Term Support" Ubuntu Release - This is not a power user's system &
we've taken great pains not to muck around with the box. Im not keen on
reinstalling.

I will try to reassign to the kernel group, not sure I have launchpad
permissions to do so.

Thanks for the note :)

Matt

Not a bug in jpilot but in the Linux kernel.
