Bug Description

Binary package hint: compiz

Workspace switcher applet was showing only two workspaces instead of the 4 (2x2) as set in the preferences. I checked if it is working ok with effects disabled... it did work as expected, showing 4 workspaces... but when I tried to reenable compiz, the dialog box with the Effects could not be enabled text came up.
Using karmic koala x86, compiz 1:0.8.4-0ubuntu2.

It looks like compiz is starting fine but gnome-appearance-properties thinks it isn't so goes back to metacity.

affects: compiz (Ubuntu) → gnome-control-center (Ubuntu)
