Bug Description

Using the domain controller vmdk image in virtualbox. I logged on and first thing I did was hit the webmin interface which required an update to 1.500. I hit the Upgrade Webmin Now button and it seemed to upgrade fine. I was able to continue using webmin 1.5. ok. However later on I used shellinabox to get a console prompt and use standard apt-get update/upgrade to upgrade the whole machine. webmin got downgraded back to 1.490.

Perhaps you need to disable the web upgrade button in webmin?

I noticed the same behavior. Looks like a problem with two update mechanisms not recognizing the other.

I think seeing as the updated version contains security related fixes (see here: http://www.webmin.com/changes.html), then perhaps TKL devs need to seriously consider packaging the latest version.

A workaround maybe to set apt to ignore updates to Webmin, although I'm not so sure it still won't break the internal upgrade (I don't know enough about pinning).

I guess another workaround for users would be to include the Webmin repo in their sources.list? Although I think the only package available via their repo is webmin-all (which includes all modules, whereas TKL repo includes individual modules which can be installed/removed one-by-one).

Personally I just don't use apt-get upgrade, I have had problems introduced before and I figure as a general view, if its not broken, don't fix it! I just leave the TKL auto security updates enabled and only upgrade packages if I need/want too. In this case, Webmin 1.5 doesn't get overwritten.
