OpenOffice Writer always scrolls back to cursor after click

Bug Description

Binary package hint: openoffice.org

OpenOffice.org Writer always tends to scroll the document to cursor despite the fact that I'm scrolling with the mouse wheel.

As far as I can see, the scroll only happens when you scroll document down. Then, if you're not quick enough to click somewhere in the visible area of the document, it jumps back to make current cursor position visible in about one second which is terribly annoying. Then you have to scroll again, and second time it does not happen (looks like there's a timer which fires after certain interval upon a click).

It seems this problem goes as far back as 2007 (OOo 2.3): http://www.openoffice.org/servlets/ReadMsg?list=users&msgNo=164000

I can confirm this behaviour. My research also suggests that this issue has been around for quite a while:
http://www.google.com/search?hl=en&q=openoffice+scrolling+annoying&aq=f&oq=&aqi=

I wasn't able to find a solution or a workaround online. Digging through OO Writer's settings also didn't yield any success.

There is a Youtube video which shows this behaviour: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yC0z43eP6Uw

Confirmed a thousand irritating times over.

The behavior seems to be related to autosave or something. In my experience, the view will jump back only if you mouse-wheel-scroll the cursor off the screen very soon after moving the cursor.

So, reproduction steps:
1) Open a multi-page document.
2) Click somewhere in it to set cursor position.
3) IMMEDIATELY mouse-wheel scroll to the other page.
4) View will jump back to cursor.
5) If you now try to scroll again, it will work. (Possibly because the autosave has already completed.)

Changed in openoffice.org (Ubuntu):
status: New → Confirmed
