Bug Description

Binary package hint: qemu-kvm

Running Karmic Ubuntu Server on a Quad Core Phenom II processor.

I am running a Windows XP Service Pack 3 installation (under KVM), and I tried to install Kaspersky Internet Security 2010, however, after installation, Windows XP VM blue screens, then reboots.

http://forum.kaspersky.com/index.php?showtopic=148735 includes some information about my computer (down a bit has link to information about my VM install)

Aparently, QEMU does not work with Kaspersky, however, a quick google search of "qemu kaspersky", and I found that CentOS has fixed this issue?

http://fr2.rpmfind.net/linux/RPM/ASP/i386/updates/12.1/x86_64/kvm-qemu-img-83-105.el5_4.13.asp121.x86_64.html

has the following:
  - kvm-kernel-kvm-x86-ignore-reads-to-perfctr-msrs.patch [bz#482423]
  - Resolves: bz#482423 - Kaspersky AV crash the VM after installation

I cannot find out where bz#482423 is though, but seems like CentOS has fixed this issue...

Just wondering if anyone has anything else to add to this? maybe your seeing the same sort of issues I am? or maybe interested in fixing it, seeing as though rhel5 _seems_ to have fixed the problem.

just to advise people, that this issue is fixed in lucid...

just installed lucid now, and kaspersky installed fine, so would have been the Kernel update that did it (which includes the patch provided earlier)
