init: Line 1 can't open /dev/sdb: no media found

Bug Description

It goes thru sdb , sdc, sde, What is SD(x) the computer has hda I do not have any SATA drives and raid is shut off !
this is a Intel P4 socket 755 CPU 3.4 gigahertz and 3 gig of ram ( PC-3200 ) AGP Geforce 256 meg video card BRAND new Maxtor 120 gig hard drive ( 64 bit computer ) and I get [ init : line 1 can't open /dev/sdb( sdc, sde, ) : no media found ]
This is the stuff I get when Installing Ubuntu 9.04 or 9.10 I had 9.04 installed as dual boot and removed it decided to wait for 9.10 and get new hard drive now NEITHER will install WHY ?

At a minimum, we need:
1. the specific steps or actions you took that caused you to encounter the problem,
2. the behavior you expected, and
3. the behavior you actually encountered (in as much detail as possible).
