Bug Description

When editing a text in thunderbird (writing of a new message for example), if i move the text cursor (small flashing vertical bar) by usign arrow keys (left, right, up, down), then the text cursor is displayed at its new position... but it stay displayed at its previous position too. For example, if i keep pressed the left arrow key, there will be a vertical thin black bar between each character from the old position of the cursor up to the new position of the cursor.

This bug exists for thunderbird (it makes thunderbird near unusable). It also exists for firefox (i have the problem writing this bug report). There is no pb with other software (konqueror for example).

I uses kubuntu dapper for amd64, but i reproduced the pb with the live CD ubuntu 6.06 for amd64, and with the live CD ubuntu 6.06 for i586.

For information, my machine is based on a gigabyt k8nf-9 ultra mother board with an amd64 3200+. The graphic card is a leadtek px6200tc-256F128.

I can not reproduce this problem.

I used live CD ubuntu 6.06 and installed it into hard disk. (i386)

I think it may be hardware-specific problem.

My graphic card is a GeForce 6200 Turbo Cache with the default "nv" driver installed.

I just downloaded the nvidia driver (nvidia-glx package) and ran nvidia-glx-config, and now the problem has gone ! I am editing this message by using firefox without any dirty text cursor around :)

To sum up, the pb seems to be with the "nv" driver.

Since this bug report is about 4 months old, and it seems to be caused by a driver mismatch, I changed the status to rejected.

If you still are experiencing problems please summit a new bug report.

Thank you for your cooperation.

I have this problem too. I have the nv driver installed and my text gets all messed up. This is only for the text fields in firefox and not epiphany so I wonder why this should be related to the graphics driver. Currently I don't want to use the proprietary nvidia driver and as the nv is used by default I request this bug to be reopened.

I am sorry. The error is present in epiphany as well but not the address field there and not in any GNOME text fields. I use amd64 fesity.
