Bug Description

I have extreme swapping which turns my notebook unusable. Looking in the logs I find messages related to swapping after the following lines:
Dec 10 11:07:45 ubuntu kernel: [89143.980050] wlan0: no IPv6 routers present
Dec 10 11:21:07 ubuntu kernel: [89945.467868] swapper: page allocation failure. order:2, mode:0x4020
Dec 10 11:21:07 ubuntu kernel: [89945.467879] Pid: 0, comm: swapper Tainted: P 2.6.31-16-generic #52-Ubuntu

...

Dec 10 11:21:07 ubuntu kernel: [89945.477517] iwlagn 0000:0c:00.0: Can not allocate SKB buffers
Dec 10 11:21:07 ubuntu kernel: [89945.477517] swapper: page allocation failure. order:2, mode:0x4020
Dec 10 11:21:07 ubuntu kernel: [89945.477517] Pid: 0, comm: swapper Tainted: P 2.6.31-16-generic #52-Ubuntu

During a week I always use suspend instead of shutting the notebook down. It is currently running for two days which should not be a problem.

Hi Christoph,

This bug was reported a while ago and there hasn't been any activity in it recently. We were wondering if this is still an issue? Can you try with the latest development release of Ubuntu? ISO CD images are available from http://cdimage.ubuntu.com/releases/ .

If it remains an issue, could you run the following command from a Terminal (Applications->Accessories->Terminal). It will automatically gather and attach updated debug information to this report.

apport-collect -p linux 494971

Also, if you could test the latest upstream kernel available that would be great. It will allow additional upstream developers to examine the issue. Refer to https://wiki.ubuntu.com/KernelMainlineBuilds . Once you've tested the upstream kernel, please remove the 'needs-upstream-testing' tag. This can be done by clicking on the yellow pencil icon next to the tag located at the bottom of the bug description and deleting the 'needs-upstream-testing' text. Please let us know your results.

Thanks in advance.
