Bug Description

Binary package hint: pidgin

When my MSN account is active in pidgin, about once per second there's a bunch of exchanges over dbus where a new connection comes on the bus, says Hello, asks GConf for an IOR and disconnects. The IOR doesn't seem to change. Disabling the MSN account stops the stream of exchanges, re-enabling it starts it again.

Perhaps it should just ask once and store the returned value? If the IOR can change, subscribe to the relevant "change" signal? If it must be polled, perhaps somewhat less frequently than the roughly three times per second that I'm seeing?

Typical exchange:

signal sender=org.freedesktop.DBus -> dest=(null destination) serial=45 path=/org/freedesktop/DBus; interface=org.freedesktop.DBus; member=NameOwnerChanged

Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make Ubuntu better.You reported this bug a while ago and there hasn't been any activity in it recently. We were wondering is this still an issue for you? Do you get the same with Lucid or Maverick? Thanks in advance.

Yes, I'm still seeing that in lucid (pidgin 1:2.6.6-1ubuntu4).

It's only really an issue when debugging another dbus program, and the work-around of disabling my MSN account while doing that works OK, so it's not a very serious issue, but it's still there.

Please let me know if you have trouble replicating it and I'll see what other information I can supply (version numbers etc); I expected it to show up anywhere, so I haven't reported them beyond the version of pidgin and the name of the protocol, but I guess if it's some interaction the version numbers of other things might also be important...
