The MP3 plug in not found even on internet unable to play MP3 songs its too boring without songs
it gives error that suitable plugins not found this is my problem on compaq cq40 laptop
it has Ubuntu 9.10 installed
I have also tried to install plugins from terminal but it doesn't works too.

Abhijit, restricted- extras. 10-plugins- bad-multiverse" , which gives the mp3 support.
Have you tried to install the following metapackage?
Ubuntu-
It will install the package "gstreamer0.
You can also check this with the Configuration Editor (gconf-editor). gstreamer/ 0.10/audio/ profiles/ mp3
Go to system/
See that the "active" box is checked.
