Bug Description

Binary package hint: mozilla-firefox

I get a segmentation fault in ubuntu karmic koala when i'm using firefox.....
i confirmed segmentation fault when i gave firefox in terminal to open, these are few strange things happen,

1) i'm not able to stop or close firefox, no buttons work, firefox is dead!!
2) i use top or htop or system monitor or ps command to find pid of firefox, so i can terminate (kill command), no way, it never shows the signs of firefox?? so i need to restart the system......
3) all my other applications are working proper, all drivers intact, whats the problem
4) i have no add-ons for firefox, except the clean stable speed-dial, it happened twice from a week

whats major problem and whats reason for this?

Thanks for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make Ubuntu better. We appreciate the difficulties you are facing, but this appears to be a "regular" (non-security) bug. I have unmarked it as a security issue since this bug does not show evidence of allowing attackers to cross privilege boundaries nor directly cause loss of data/privacy. Please feel free to report any other bugs you may find.

security vulnerability: yes → no
visibility: private → public

Thank you for reporting this to Ubuntu. Could you please generate an apport crash report for this?
You can enable apport for one instance like this:
sudo service apport start force_start=1

I am marking this invalid as apport will open a new bug when the crash is generated. If it does not, you can reset the status of this one to New and we will try something else.

affects: firefox (Ubuntu) → firefox-3.5 (Ubuntu)
Changed in firefox-3.5 (Ubuntu):
status: New → Invalid
