After inserting DVD Movie Player opens with the error message:"An error occurred Could not open location, you might not have permission to open the file". Clicking OK then Movie > Play Disc 'DISC-TITLE' then plays the Copyright Notice and a brief intro followed by the "Play" select screen

what kind of dvd is that one? is libdvdread installed? do you get the same with karmic?

I am only aware of one type of DVD, ie. DVD video. I get the same result with various DVD's from my collection.
libdvdread4 is installed.
I get the same result with Karmic on a different box.
I forgot to include that I am not getting any sound when th DVD runs.

Kamus, I've checked Ubuntu 10.10 Maverick and 10.04.1 Lucid and both load Movie Player correctly. Regards, Ron
