gnome-ppp + edge-modem : pppd daemon does not create ppp0 interface

Binary package hint: gnome-ppp

There edge modem Onext Eg210U
ubuntu 9.10 sees him but does not want to use.

test @ ubuntu: ~ $ lsusb
   Bus 003 Device 002: ID 067b: 0610 Prolific Technology, Inc. Onext EG210U MODEM
test @ ubuntu: ~ $ dmesg | tail

at 9.04 did so:

   root @ lbp: / home / lpb # modprobe pl2303
   root @ lbp: / home / lpb # echo 067b 0610> / sys/bus/usb-serial/drivers/pl2303/new_id

appeared ttyUSB0 and using gnome-ppp I went to the Internet.
at 9.10 did likewise, ttyUSB0 appeared.

how to understand what was wrong with the new ubuntu?

You should use network-manager with edge modems, not wvdial or gnome-ppp.

Doesn't your modem show up in network-manager?

yes, in network-manager my modem is not visible.

( network-manager has been updated with ppa )
