Bug Description

Binary package hint: evolution

I'm using Evolution 2.28.1 and I'm getting an error when I send an email to people who have different domain names (gmail.com / yahoo.com) I get this error "Error while Sending message. RCPT TO <email address hidden> failed: Relaying not allowed

I can send emails within my organization (samedomain.com) but not to other domain names. My colleagues who are using evolution are able to send emails to other domains

I had no problems earlier but recently got some system updates just wondering if those updates are causing this?

Kindly let me know how to fix this issue

Thanks & Regards

Avinash

Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make Ubuntu better. Unfortunately, we can't fix it because your description didn't include enough information. You may find it helpful to read "How to report bugs effectively" http://www.chiark.greenend.org.uk/~sgtatham/bugs.html. We'd be grateful if you would then provide a more complete description of the problem.

We have instructions on debugging some types of problems at http://wiki.ubuntu.com/DebuggingProcedures

At a minimum, we need:
1. the specific steps or actions you took that caused you to encounter the problem,
2. the behavior you expected, and
3. the behavior you actually encountered (in as much detail as possible).
Thanks!

Ray:

Could you please tell me if you are receiving the exact same error as described in the bug summary? If so then could you post the screenshot showing the error?

I strongly suspect this is a support question. I am using a fully updated installation of Ubuntu and I am able to configure and use Evolution with Gmail without a problem. Did you need a link to the configuration procedure for Evolution with Gmail?

Sorry that this has taken so long for me to post more information.

Not sure what changed in Evolution (by me or auto updates) or in GMail. I went back to the GMail help on configuration and went through every panel to insure I had Evolution configured correctly.

The three things I changed were on the Sending Email tab from the Edit selection of my gmail account under the Edit/Prefeneces from the main menu. Those changes were to a) sChecked "Server Requires Authorization" ON, b) set Security to SSL Encryption (had been set at TLS) and c) Set the Authentication Type to LOGIN (loaded my full GMail username in the Username: textbox, left the Remember Password checkbox unchecked).

This seems to have resolved my issues.

Again, if the above occured by my manipulation, perhaps someone else can at least seen this and recover.

Thanks to all who looked at and commented to assist in this.

Unless others are experiencing this issue that the above does not resolve, this thread can be closed (IMHO).
