Bug Description

Binary package hint: gnome-power-manager

the power manager just notice if there is a battery or not. i get no information about the charge-level, volt or watt.
it also did not change the symbol if i run on battery. i use ubuntu 9.10 but also get the problem if i use the live-cd of ubuntu 9.04. the battery is a new one because asus changed it. before i did not have the problem under 9.04. new installation of 9.10 was without battery because it was just away for changing. hope someone can tell me how to fix it and that not asus send me another broken battery.

thanks so long

maulwurf, just to clarify, did you have this new battery with 9.04 and it worked fine? If that is the case, I doubt there is a problem with the battery itself.

this new battery i just had with 9.10, but i tested with a live-cd from 9.04 if i get any information but it failed. don't know if the live cd has the hole support.

think also it is the battery. will call the support tomorrow and give an update.

i called the support who changed the battery and they said it might be the softwarecontrol of the battery and i should set up the system new. means i have to install vista, check if it is ok and then restore linux.

i will send an email to asus directly because this cant solve the problem. think the man who answered my call was more a noob then i am^^.

so long

I send the battery to an asus repair-service. have to see what they tell me. if i get it back i will report if it works. if not it could be the same problem like noticed before.

I think this is my core problem - my upower daemon is not properly configured, so it doesn't tell the rest of the system I have a battery, and the application-level stuff (gnome-power-manager et al.) don't realize there's any battery at all. I've tried googling for some information on how to try to configure or diagnose upower, but so far I've not gotten anywhere. Any suggestions?

Geoff, it sounds like you have a different issue. I'd recommend filing a new report with "ubuntu-bug gnome-power-manager".

David - Thanks. I originally did file a different bug:

It seems like there's some configuration problem with devkit/upower. FWIW, my machine has been upgraded from at least Ubuntu 8.04 through the 9.x and now to 10.x. I started seeing this problem with 9.10
