Bug Description

Sometimes when Opera is running, it freezes down with whole Ubuntu as well. Problem doesn't depend on neither number of open tabs (it happens when one tab is open as well as when ten are open) nor the Java / Flash content of the pages (it happens on text-based like wikipedia or sourceforge.net as well as java or flash based pages).
The turning the computer off is only possible way to solve it (ctrl+alt+del doesn't work).

I have no idea how to find something like bug report or so because of necessity of the restart.

I am not good at computers, but I read that reporting bugs is usefull so I hope it will help you.

Opera version: 10.10 (same bug at the older)
Ubuntu Karmic Koala (same bug at the previous version)

I have had the same thing happen to me. It seems to occur when I minimize Opera by clicking on the "O" on the toolbar... keeps it running in the background without showing as an open window. When I click the "O" to maximize it, Opera opens with it's address bar showing as a blank pull-down menu. That's when the whole system freezes and I have to do a hard boot. I can see that something is still going pon, since my system monitor applet still shows CPU and network activity, but the entire system is unresponsive to mouse clicks and the keyboard.
The only thing that worked once was ctrl-alt-F2, which actually dropped me out to a terminal session. I logged in and tried to startx, but it said a session was already running and I wasn't sure what to try from there.

Sorry, forgot to mention that I am running Ubuntu 9.10 with Opera 10.10 also. If I can offer any more info, please let me know what you need.

I get the same, and although I can't reproduce it it seems to be related to unminimizing Opera (10.10&karmic). When it happens, I log on a console (ctrl-alt-F2) and kill opera manually. Going back to GNOME (alt-F7), everything works again. Strangely, often a GNOME help window is popping up after doing that. Don't ask why. Very annoying!

@Dan: The F1 (from your ctrl-alt-F1 to switch to your first virtual console) is being picked up by Gnome, after you kill Opera.

It is a bug in Opera and needs to be fixed in Opera. It could happen on any distro. :(
