wireless doesn't work after sleeping/hibernating

Bug Description
I have a Thinkpad r61i. First the wireless didn't work at all. I found instructions for installing madwifi drivers. Now it works except when the laptop sleeps or hibernates. Then it can't find any wireless networks. After restarting it works again.
