Cinepaint taken from Getdeb crashes for me on starting a picture. Original Cinepaint works well.

To make sure I got it clear, it crashes on File -> New ?
I am unable to reproduce the problem using File -> New with the default options.
Also please run it from the terminal to check for any error messages.

Yes. And also it crashes on File->Settings.

I'll check the terminal output as soon as I can access Ubuntu.

Added backtrace.

Also should be noted that Cinepaint does not appear in the menu.

Please remove your .cinepaint directory and try again.

The problem seems to be related to:
WARNING: /build/build-oyranos_0.1.9-1~getdeb2-amd64-7OrpbJ/oyranos-0.1.9-1~getdeb2/oyranos_monitor.c:446 oyGetMonitorProfile_() Could not get Xatom, probably your monitor profile is not set: _ICC_PROFILE[-1]

On mine it does:
cms.c:466 cms_init_oyranos() monitor profile size: 6922

Yes, it does not work with clean dir either.

It does not even appear in the menu after installation, and when started from command line says 'cinepaint installation' and then the toolbox appear but crashes when trying to start a new image.

There is something odd, the "new image crash" could be a random bug, the missing menu entry can't.
Please provide the output for the following commands:

apt-cache policy cinepaint
apt-cache policy cinepaint-data
ls -ltr /usr/share/applications/cinepaint.desktop
dpkg -S /usr/share/applications/cinepaint.desktop

Thanks

I found the same problem under OpenSUSE so this is the problem of Cinepaint itself. But Cinepaint works if to start it with English locale:

LANG=C cinepaint

I think it crashes because it searches and cannot find translation files for a language other than English.

I cannot reproduce a crash.

Please provide the output of
echo $LANG
so I can see if it is language related.

You can workaround the bug by running cinpaint with LANG=C.

You can also change the /usr/share/applications/cinepaint.desktop file accordingly.

This bug has to be reported to upstream. It is not a packaging issue.
