Bug Description

There is no power button in 9.10 Ubuntu Netbook Remix by default. This is very confusing for a normal user who might not know that Ubuntu is as configurable as it is, and that they can put one in the panel.

There should either be one in the panel, or one put in the new interface for the desktop. I know there used to be one in the bottom right hand corner, but to date I can't find its replacement.

I believe you need to add the Fast-user-switcher to the notification area. I'm afraid I can't tell you how to add things, it's supposed to be as simple as right clicking on a blank area of the notification area. In the UNR it's nigh on impossible to find the single pixel where this behaviour seems to take effect.

It was originally enabled by default in the alpha of Karmic, it seemed to disappear later on in the release cycle as I upgraded.

Hmmm thats odd. Mine didn't come with one. Ok, well this isn't a papercut in that case, it'll be a bug won't it.

It is because you went from an upgrade, and reviews are done off live CD's or fresh installs.
So in terms its a bug, yes a regression in panel settings. Basically its the combination of user settings overriding the system settings and the upgrade not just nuking the related settings to keep the appearance smooth.

I checked the release notes, which list bugs that appeared from upgrade. Typically the actual bugs listed are proprietary drivers or user settings taking higher precedence. Then the not really a bug things, half of them being changes in the system.

Ubuntu Netbook Remix missing shutdown applet after upgrade

After upgrading Ubuntu Netbook Remix, the shutdown applet may be absent from the top panel. As a workaround, move the current applets to make some available space on the panel, then right-click in the freed space to add the "Indicator Applet Session" applet manually. See https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/461115 for detailed instructions.

What this does point to is on the Ubuntu netbook remix which is hardly customized, User settings, at least for the panel, should be reset. I mean Ubuntu netbook users don't change the panel around much as it is already set up very nicely for screen efficiency.

Filed a bug more in line hopefully with the issue.
