Sun Virtualbox doesnt start after upgrade to 9.10

The following error message is displayed:

VirtualBox cannot operate in VMX root mode. Please disable the KVM kernel extension, recompile your kernel and reboot.
(VER_VMX_IN_VMX_ROOT_MODE)

Virtualbox ran perfectly in 9.04 prior to upgrade, wouldn't run at all after upgrade so I then upgraded VirtualBox to the latest version (3.0) Since then the above message has appeared each time I start Virtualbox

VirtualBox will work after the following terminal command:
sudo rmmod kvm_intel kvm

I've added both of these modules to the blacklist, however this doesn't seem to stop them loading at system startup.

The big issue is I dont understand why these modules are loading at all as Virtualbox is the only virtualisation software I use, or have ever used. I've installed no new apps other than the upgrade from 9.04 to 9.10, and the upgrade of virtualbox.

Other users who have done clean installs of virtualbox and 9.10 dont seem to have this issue.

This is becoming very annoying!
