Bug Description

Binary package hint: kscreensaver

On two different machines running Dapper (up-to-date upgrades), a sony vaio b100 with an i855GME display driver and on a Dell D620 with a i945GM display driver, the GL screensavers show up on the upper 2/5 or so of the screen, with the lower portion blank. This happens every time the screensaver is activated, including when restoring from suspend-to-disk.

Is this rectified by installing kscreensaver-xsavers or xscreensaver-gl?

If so, please mark this as a duplicate of bug 44631, as the solution is the same.

No, kscreensaver-savers and xscreensaver-gl have no affect. I have
not found any error messages generated by this error, either.

right.

Do you have xscreensaver installed, and what happens if you remove it? I've seen this before, but i've forgotten exactly what the solution is, hence the guesses. And i cant currently reproduce it here, as this isnt a fresh install.

No, I did not have xscreensaver installed. Installation had no effect,
the problem remains.

Further research suggests that this is the same as bug 43052. I don't use Amarok (as the original poster of 43052 does), and I haven't seen this GL problem in any other application other than the GL screensavers.

marking as a duplicate, and added that it seems to work if you install rss-glx to the other bug report.

Installation of rss-glx does install a bunch of gl screensavers that DO work, but the particle-based ones (flux, solar winds, gravity, etc) as well as euphoria and fireworks do not.

Interestingly enough, these are the ones that don't show in the preview window, either.

Dangit, opened my mouth too fast. rss-glx installs duplicate versions of flux, solar winds, etc. - the _second set_ seems to work just fine, but the orginally-installed versions are still there (and don't work).
