Bug Description

Binary package hint: openvas-server

i'm using ubuntu 9.10 (karmic) and installed

libopenvas2 (2.0.2-1)
libopenvasnasl2 (2.0.1-1)
openvas-client (2.0.3-2)
openvas-server (2.0.1-3)
from the standard repositories.

i cannot find the script openvas-nvt-sync so i cannot update the NVTs.

Its just that openvas-plugins is missing at all.

http://wald.intevation.org/frs/download.php/588/openvas-plugins-1.0.7.tar.gz has the tarball and it contains all files to build a debian package called openvas-plugins. You can download and build it yourself, but for some reason it seems that it did not make it into the distros. Strange, but maybe there is a reason we do not know yet :))

In Debian the script openvas-nvt-sync is provided by openvas-plugins-base package, recommended by openvas-server. This package will be included in Lucid. To solve the problem in Karmic you need to make the script from the source package, and then you can run it to download plugins.

The script will just fetch the plugins, but some scripts require the nes-plugins, which are provided by openvas-plugins-base and are binary packages. So just grabbing the openvas-nvt-sync script will not fully solve your problem.

first download the right packages
wget http://wald.intevation.org/frs/download.php/595/openvas-client-2.0.4.tar.gz
wget http://wald.intevation.org/frs/download.php/561/openvas-libnasl-2.0.1.tar.gz

wget http://wald.intevation.org/frs/download.php/593/openvas-server-2.0.2.tar.gz
