Hmmmm, I was trying to create a tumblr plugin for gwibber in python......but then gwibber moved to vala...& I don't know vala(learning)....so for now i am stuck with Grumblr. :(

I'm going to plus 1 to the desire for a Tumblr plugin. The site has gained significant popularity since the initial report here. I'd try to learn to program this myself, but college projects come first...
