Bug Description

Binary package hint: gnometris 2.28.0

It seems like the game is reacting on the keys (up, down, left, right), but very slowly, because of the high CPU.

It works fine in Jaunty, but not on a clean install on Karmic (or even with a live-CD).

It is especially problematic because gnometris is installed by default (or can be run from the live-CD) and new (non-technical) users who are likely to to try those little games have a bad first look on Ubuntu.

which theme of gnometris are you using ? does changing it solves the issue?

After changing the theme, form 'plain' to 'tango flat' or 'tango shaded' , the game was playable (again). However, changing the theme back to 'plain' did not lead to any difference, i.e. the bug was not reproducable. It could be that het theme changing twice has some kind of positive effect.

A point of interest: changing a theme, leads to a crash. I post a separate bug for this.

The crash when changing a theme (or a preference) is already reported: https://bugs.launchpad.net/gnome-games/+bug/437123

@markba, please could you check (if is possible of course) under latest release included in Ubuntu Lucid if this issue is still affecting you? Thanks!

gnometris is apparantly renamed to quadrapassel in 10.04. I've played quadrapassel, and everything works fine.

I have the same problem in Lucid (all updates applied): Quadrapassel gives 100% CPU usage while playing with very slow reaction on user actions (game unplayable). The problem appears with any theme.
