Bug Description

I upgraded Jaunty to Karmic and after rebooting it told me that I needed to install some language files that were previously installed. I assumed that it would be the alternate language I had installed before. However, it went ahead and downloaded and installed 16 languages, ranging from Finnish to Marathi. Installed bundles included gnome and openoffice bundles.

I had to manually deselect and delete the files to recover some disk space.

Files from dist-upgrade attached. The term.log file has the history of the installed languages. I had only ur-PK and English installed on jaunty, and the karmic upgrade asked me whether I wanted to re-install it. On yes, it went ahead the group of selected languages. I tried to figure out what those 16 languages had in common, but could not figure it out.

Apparently the language packages came as dependencies on gcompris-sound-* which where already installed on your system before the upgrade and depends on language-pack-gnome-*-base
What do you suggest to do ?

OK. I had installed gcompris for two languages. gcompris should probably provide only the chosen language modules. Can we move this to gcompris then? Thanks for all your help.

gcompris now depends on gcompris-data which then depends on "gcompris-sound-en | gcompris-sound" which looks reasonable to me. Setting to fix released. Please reopen freely if you experience this problem in trusty or later. Thank you for the report and discussion.
