Bug Description

Using an Android phone, the LG 'Eve' GW620R, the phone system option is set to always mount USB as a mass storage device. The device itself, however, fails to appear in the /media mounts, and if I attempt a manual mount of the /dev/sdc (with or without partition number) I get a "no media found" error

sudo mount /dev/sd /mnt/eve/
sda sda1 sda2 sdb sdb1 sdc

when connected, dmesg reports

[114683.460267] usb 1-3: new high speed USB device using ehci_hcd and address 10

solved! As it turns out, this is so frustrating only because there is an additional step needed: once the USB has been set to storage mode in the Android setup options and then the USB cable connected, a status message will appear to say the USB is now connected -- you must OPEN that message (doh!) and in that message there is a dialog to enable the USB as a storage device. Click 'mount' and there it is, a valid drive on the Ubuntu desktop! To un-mount, you must unmount the drive in Ubuntu and then click the unmount button to break the connection.

[This is an automated message. Apologies if it has reached you inappropriately.]

This bug was reported against the linux-meta package when it likely should have been reported against the linux package instead. We are automatically transitioning this to the linux kernel package so that the appropriate teams are notified and made aware of this issue.

If this bug really is a bug in the linux-meta package you can move it back to linux-meta and tag it kj-linux-meta, or contact us on the #ubuntu-kernel channel on the FreeNode IRC server. Thanks.

affects: linux-meta (Ubuntu) → linux (Ubuntu)
