Unable to install Ubuntu Dapper on a Fujitsu Siemens Lifebook E8110

Error : Unable to install Ubuntu Dapper Desktop.

Description : The system is extremely slow and unresponsive both in text mode and live mode.
It hangs when trying to install to HD. In text mode, the screen renders line by line.
Took 10 hours to copy 15% of the packages to the system.
With the live cd, I got the desktop up, but it is almost unresponsive, and the installer will not start. When trying to use the cli, the system locks up.

Error messages during boot:
When choosing an installer option, green artifacts appear at the top of the screen.
Next screen : bios bug #81 [49435024]
A number of lines saying:
PCI : Cannot allocate resource region
udevd-event[1807]: wait_for_sysfs : waiting for '/sys/devices/platform/i8042/serio3/serio5/bus' failed

Further error messages:
I have screenshots of every screen. Can upload them to a webserver if needed.

This is a dualboot install, with MS Windows XP occupying the first 70 GB of the HD.
Reserved 9 GB and a 1 GB swap partition for Ubuntu.

As far as I can see,this problem looks like the one found in bug #32446. However, since everything hangs at the commandpromt, I am not able to update initramfs.

Has anyone come up with a solution to this problem?

Hi,
I have the same problem with the installation. After trying your way I installed it via VMWare and this works fantastic, but I want to use it standalone. If anybody knows what to do, please comment!!!

Same with me. Cannot install through live. Installation just hangs.
Installed with alternate, always hangs while installing. The last thing i saw was while it was installing xserver.

Hi all!

I found a solution to this issue.

To install it successfully, you will need the alternate cd and choose expert install mode.

When you see the screen containing the chipsets, remove all but the generic ones(VIAxxxx). Thats the last three items on the list.

Then it should install successfully.

Hi guys i tried installing ubuntu 8.10 final release on fujitsu s6520, system hangs in few minutes after selecting install ubuntu from the menu. tried several times booting from both cd and usb drive still the same response. any suggestions or any of you guys manage to install? please let me know.
