Bug Description

Binary package hint: kdepim

I'm using Ubuntu Dapper with the latest updates as of yet.

When I'm typing an e-mail in KMail, the typing speed slows down after typing two sentences (or whatever). It's so slow I have to close KMail, restart it and resume typing where I left off. And again, after typing a paragraph, it slows down. I have disabled the as-you-type spellchecker.

The same error could be found in Kubuntu 5.10, upgraded to KDE 3.5.2, with spellchecking switched off all the time. However, the slowdown sometimes disappears after a while, but I cannot tie this behaviour to any event.

I can confirm this, too (Kubuntu Dapper), although it doesn't happen every time. I generally find that I need to type a paragraph or two before it kicks in. But on longer emails it usually happens.

The slowdown persists only in a particular message; once I hit send, the next message works normally (at least until that message, too, hits the slowdown). As a workaround, I usually copy my message into kate, finish typing it, paste back into kmail, and hit send.

On at least one occasion I noticed that gam_server was occupying 10-15% of the CPU. However, I think that may not happen every time; in other words, gam_server may be unrelated to this kmail bug. But could kmail be saving to disk as I type, and be having a "fight" with gam_server?

I am closing this for 2 reasons, 1) due to the lack of activity, and 2) I cannot confirm this to date. I apologize for the lack of activity on our part and urge you to reopen this report if you still find this an issue. Thank you.

Changed in kdepim:
status: Unconfirmed → Rejected

i have a very similar problem with kubuntu intrepid (beta).
Typing gets really slow in new message editor. it seems the delay is getting worse the more words or even letters i type.
this happens at least with spell-checking enabled, but without i still have a delay much longer then in other - even qt/kde4 applications. for example typing in kopete is a lot faster.
