Bug Description

Binary package hint: epiphany-browser

When I first upgraded to karmic I was able to enter login information on webpages and when I return to the site at a later date the login information would be autocompleted for me once the page completes loading. In the last week or so this behavior stopped occurring. I believe the package that was updated may have been a xulrunner package but Epiphany is now built on a WebKit backend so I don't know why the Mozilla (and thus Gecko) xulrunner components getting changed would affect this behavior.

SYSTEM STATS:
Ubuntu version: 9.10
Epiphany version: 2.28.0-4ubuntu1

AFFECTED SITES:
Gmail, WordPress.com, Ubuntu Forums, Launchpad, Boston Public Library online catalog (http://catalog.mbln.org/ipac20/ipac.jsp?profile=bpl1) etc.

REPRODUCABLE: 100% reproducable

STEPS:
1. Launch Epiphany and surf to a website that requires logging in
2. Enter your username and password
3. The login credentials are accepted and you are able to use the complete feature set of the website.
4. Close Epiphany
5. At some point in the future (the next day, if not later in that same day) launch Epiphany
6. Return to the website's login page

EXPECTED:
Once the login page finishes being rendered your username and password is entered into the fields (with the password being shown simply as a string of dots or asterisks)

ACTUAL:
Once the login page finishes being rendered the username and password fields are blank with no way to retrieve them short of typing them in manually. Not even the password is provided once the username is entered and you tab or click to the password field

Probably the same issue here. At least, the same result.

Some more information:
 * Passwords appear in seahorse correctly. I can search, see and open them there.
 * htauth (popup) passwords are (still) stored and retrieved from seahorse correctly.
 * Epiphany no longer asks for passwords to be stored upon entering new ones. "Save passwords" is checked in configuration.
 * Regardless of the question above (store password?) passwords are no longer inserted in seahorse.

* Erasing all files in .gconf/apps/epiphany, .gnome2/epiphany, and .gnome2/epiphany/ did not change this password-saving behaviour.

The password keyring bar works for me in epiphany 2.30 in ubuntu 10.04 (it was implemented in the 2.30 cycle I think). You may need to clean up your keyring with seahorse though.

Thanks for reporting this issue. It does seem to have been a problem at the time.

However, this seems to work under 10.04 and 10.10. If not, please reopen.
