ati xpress 200 black screen freeze when xorg is killed

There seems to be something wrong with the fglrx driver (8.25.18) and xorg 7.0.0. Everytime I try to kill xorg when shutting down or restarting X by pressing ctrl-alt-bkspce the screen just freezes to a black screen. This probably isnt a problem in ubuntu but I figure I'd let the community know whats happeneing. I am using a ATI Xpress 200 onbaord video card. Some of the output is:

I have confirmed this bug with ATI 8.34.8 on a 2.6.17-10-generic kernel in Edgy. It seems that this problem is closely related to the powernow-k8 module since the problem is no longer encountered once this module is removed.
