Bug Description

Once I see the little pinwheel (ubuntu's hourglass, I don't know what it's called) in the boot process mythtv just shows a black screen with a white rectangle in the upper left corner. The black background seems to be the wallpaper or background and the white box looks like there was a window there or it failed to draw a window. The white rectangle is a little smaller than the top-left quarter of the screen that it occupies. Once the desktop is displayed everything looks fine.

This is reported against Mythbuntu 9.10 upgraded to a daily build on Nov. 9th 2009 (I may be off by a day or two).

Any chance you disabled composite in your xorg config? I have noticed something similar after disabling composite.

Yes, it was disabled. I just changed the value to "Enable" in xorg.conf and rebooted. That did resolve the white rectangle problem, but the video quality on a 1080i recording suffers. I can see tearing in the video that I don't normally see. It also takes much longer for the recording to start, it's taking about 10 seconds.

Here is my xorg.conf after switching the composite setting back-

Section "Screen"
        Identifier "Default Screen"
        DefaultDepth 24
EndSection

Section "Device"
        Identifier "Default Device"
        Driver "nvidia"
        Option "UseEvents" "1"
        Option "DPI" "100x100"
        Option "NoLogo" "1"
        Option "TripleBuffer" "True"
EndSection

Section "Extensions"
        Option "Composite" "Disable"
EndSection

this ticket.

I am closing this ticket for the following reasons:

1. This is a direct side effect of disabling composite
