Bug Description

System:
Linux ubuntu 2.6.31-15-generic #50-Ubuntu SMP Tue Nov 10 14:53:52 UTC 2009 x86_64 GNU/Linux
Ubuntu 9.10
grub-common 1.97-beta4-1ubuntu4
grub-pc 1.97-beta4-1ubuntu4
2 HD arranged with RAID 1 (MD1 /home) (MD2 /).
dmraid 1.0.0.rc15-11ubuntu3
dmsetup 2:1.02.27-4ubuntu7
libdevmapper1.02.1 2:1.02.27-4ubuntu7
libdmraid1.0.0.rc15 1.0.0.rc15-11ubuntu3
mdadmin 2.6.7.1-1ubuntu13

Symptoms:

On every boot during grub this message 'error: biosdisk read error' show up.
When looking on the RAID using Palimpsest Disk Utility 2.28.0 both RAID volumes are shown as being in state degraded this despite that the state is reported in sync.

When having a Philips Gogear connected during boot it ends with:
error: biosdisk read error
error: cannot get C/H/S values
grub rescue>

I can add to this that during upgrade from 9.04 to 9.10 the system were looping during boot leaving the system in a hanging state.

During installation of grub2 it proposed installation on MD2 but I had to change it manually to (hd0) else installation failed.

Hi,

Seems like dmraid 1.0.0.rc15-11ubuntu3 and libdmraid1.0.0.rc15 1.0.0.rc15-11ubuntu3 is incompatible with software raid.

Have remove them and can rebuild the raid.

Is this the only problem left? Then this is probably a duplicate of Bug #396564.
