Bug Description

Hi,

the results from the data gathered by the popularity-contest package are available on [1], but there are no shiny graphs. It would be nice if for each package a graph of number of reported installations over time could be displayed, similar to the graphs made available by Debian [2].

Regards,
Ansgar

Hi,

I have made some simple graphs (only installation count) available on http://popularity-contest.43-1.org, but as there seems no way to retrieve history data from popcon.ubuntu.com, the graphs start on end of November.

This would be useful indeed. Ansgar, that link doesn't appear to work, is it available anywhere?

Oh, wrong link. It is named http://ubuntu-popcon.43-1.org/ for now.
I plan to include the popularity data from Debian as well so one can compare (relative) package installations.

Thanks, that is neat! I feel like someone out there must have some
data going back further, we just need to find them. I think I'll blog
on the Ubuntu planet about what you've done here and this bug report,
and about my efforts to graph historical popcon data as well, and see
if anyone knows of a data source.

This would be very useful in charting the popularity of Ubuntu itself, and it's growth. We need a metric that quickly tells us whether growth is still strong.

Someone in the community is going to have to take this on theemselves to develop or enhance this. Sorry, no resources to do this currently.

Euhm: if nobody supplies the data the community cannot develop this (or use debian tools to do it). __Please provide historical popcon data__

To whomever this may interest, I've put up a slightly more complete app (you can graph the different inst/vote/etc. numbers and multiple packages at once). There is only about one year of history from now (from june 2010):

Matthew, I think the community could do something great if we only had the data, as Johan points out. Is there anywhere this might be obtained so that we have more data going back further than 2 years ago? Thanks for any help!
