Bug Description

Using the linux kernel 2.6.31-14-generic-pae in a virtual machine made by a Karmic Server CD - virtual setup, I cannot mount cd images.
Problem:
$ sudo mount /dev/scd0 /media/cdrom
mount: unknown filesystem "iso9660"

And there is no iso9660 module to be modprobed, thus making it unable to mount cds and cd-images in the virtual machine.
Somehow this module is missing from the setup.

This seems to be the same as bug #481267 ?

Yes, it is the same.
I'm not sure which one should be marked as a duplicate, since I posted it affecting the linux package, the other one was posted in the Ubuntu JeOS section, but it's effecting both of them. And I attached a huge pile of debug messages. :)

I've run into the same issue on VMware ESXi 4.0 running Ubuntu 9.10 i386 minimal-virtual install.

Hi cheoppy,

This bug was reported a while ago and there hasn't been any activity in it recently. We were wondering if this is still an issue? Can you try with the latest development release of Ubuntu? ISO CD images are available from http://cdimage.ubuntu.com/releases/ .

If it remains an issue, could you run the following command from a Terminal (Applications->Accessories->Terminal). It will automatically gather and attach updated debug information to this report.

apport-collect -p linux 482302

Also, if you could test the latest upstream kernel available that would be great. It will allow additional upstream developers to examine the issue. Refer to https://wiki.ubuntu.com/KernelMainlineBuilds . Once you've tested the upstream kernel, please remove the 'needs-upstream-testing' tag. This can be done by clicking on the yellow pencil icon next to the tag located at the bottom of the bug description and deleting the 'needs-upstream-testing' text. Please let us know your results.

Thanks in advance.

It's fixed in lucid (10.04) rc server cd-image, using the minimal install option for virtual machines.
